Before losing his memories and still trying to complete the R-system, Jellal saw Pokémon as nothing more than worthless creatures that only are used by mages as a means of power to help preserve their own magic and do remedial labor basically tools. He considers them so useless that did not think it was necessary to have his own. However when he first tried to strike down both Erza and Natsu but was blocked by their starter in their first stage of evolution. They kept at it with one shot after another, even landing a few blows in themselves with the help of their teammates within their trainer’s roster during that time. Jellal was surprise that they were pushing him back and wondered how. Natsu then yelled out that it’s what you get for underestimating the bond is between people and Pokémon who have been like family to each other for years. Just when it looked like their win, Jellal gets even more enraged and uses Meteor to send them all flying and caused some heavy damage. They all were returned to their Pokéballs, and Natsu took it from there. After the Oracion Seis awaken from the coma, he became traumatized around Pokémon during the entire arc. Saying he was not worthy to be with them and starts shaking. When he was broken out of prison, he began to work on this problem until he was able to form a bond with a Beldum.
